Lily Pad Interiors, Inc. was founded by Alecia Flaherty, an accomplished engineer with a specialty in designing high-tech water purification systems. Alecia’s occupation satisfied her meticulous, technical side, but not her sensitive, creative side. While gleefully designing a nursery for her first-born son, and, later, her second, she began to see there was another type of work for which she was ideally suited.

“At some point I realized that my joyful labor of love was not so joyful for many other parents,” Alecia recalls. “But every parent wants the very best for that wonderful child in their lives – a one-of-a-kind room that will nurture and inspire.” Thus, the idea for a new career in designing interiors for children was born.

Realizing that many of her engineering skills – her attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, facility with scale drawings, and ability to schedule, budget and install a job – gave her a huge head start, Alecia enrolled in an accredited interior decorating program. Upon completing the rigorous training, she received her certification, becoming a professional member of Certified Interior Decorators International.  Now she wakes up every day to a job she loves. Alecia’s very favorite part of her work is seeing the delight on a child’s face upon first catching sight of the new room.

“A child’s environment is so much more than a place to meet the basic needs of sleeping, dressing, studying and bathing,” Alecia explains. “It should be a place that sparks creativity, fosters a sense of security, and creates cherished memories for years to come; an environment that is age-appropriate, but will grow with them. It is our goal to make the process fun for both parent and child. We aspire to light up children’s faces – one face at a time.”
